Original Story:
In the wake of a mumps outbreak, the North Sanpete County School District is keeping students who haven’t received the MMR vaccine out of school.
Two people in Sanpete County have mumps, according to the Central Utah Public Health Department. The department said it’s following up on others who’ve been in contact with the cases they know about.
According to North Sanpete School District Superintendent Dr. Sam Ray, one of those is a student in the school district.
Ray did not say which school the student who has mumps attends, but said North Sanpete High School is “involved” in the outbreak.
School officials have notified all parents and employees of the outbreak over the weekend, Ray said.
Non-vaccinated students can return to school on May 5th, but they’ll have to give proof they were vaccinated in the meantime.
