New Water Intake System Installed at Glen Canyon Dam

A new system at Glen Canyon Dam will provide nearby communities with water even if Lake Powell reaches “dead pool” level. According to federal reclamation officials, crews completed the new water intake connections at the Dam last month that will allow water to be provided to residents of Page and parts of the Navajo Nation even if the reservoir falls to 3,362 ft., 8 feet below the dead pool level. Lake Powell has fallen to 23 percent capacity and is expected to drop below 3,522 feet later this month. This is the second backup collection system below the main intake collection and is located 100 feet below the old system.
