(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah’s new flag won’t be on the ballot. The Lieutenant Governor’s Office said yesterday that the group that launched a campaign to put the new flag up for a referendum fell far short of gathering enough signatures to put the issue on the ballot. More than 134-thousand valid signatures needed to be collected by 5 p.m. Wednesday and fewer than 50-thousand were submitted for verification. The new flag will become Utah’s official state flag on March 9th, 2024 while the current flag will be designated the historic flag. The historic flag will be flown at the state Capitol at all times and at all state buildings during all state holidays and any special occasions.
