One person is in custody after a car chase that spanned multiple counties in Central Utah. According to a news release from the Piute County Sheriff’s Office, on Sept.3, a traffic stop was initiated by an Emery County Sheriff’s Deputy for excessive speed. The suspect vehicle fled resulting in a pursuit, which was shortly terminated due to lost visual with the suspect vehicle. The vehicle information was relayed ahead as they fled westbound on Interstate 70. Multiple short pursuits ensued on I-70 but were terminated by law enforcement due to the suspect’s vehicle reaching high speeds and blacking out the lights on the vehicle. Piute County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted the vehicle at the North end of Marysvale Canyon, they and Sevier County Deputies continued the pursuit through Piute County and into Garfield County. About 7 miles into Garfield County the vehicle ran over spike strips laid out by State Troopers. The vehicle left the highway and crashed, the suspect then fled on foot being chased by State Troopers, Piute Deputies and a DPS helicopter. Once apprehended they were taken to the Sevier County Jail. The suspect was charged with multiple offenses including felony evading.
