Moroni water still too high in nitrates

Moroni water still too high in nitrates

UPDATE— Moroni City has been working to fix one of the wells that supplies water to the city.  The well failed on February 23, and the city expects to install the new pump on Friday, March 6.  Water will be tested on Monday, March 9, and the city will advise if the warning can be lifted following that test.  Until that time, infants under six months old and pregnant women should not drink culinary water or anything made with it.

While it is improving, water in Moroni is still not safe for infants younger than 6 months old to drink.  According to Moroni City Public Works last water sample, the maximum contaminate standard for nitrates is 10 mgl in drinking water.  The level in Moroni’s water is currently 1.3 mgl over the maximum level.  Adults and children older than six months can drink the tap water without concern; however infants younger than that should not drink it at this time.  Others who may have specific health concerns and pregnant women should consult their doctor.

Moroni City is still providing bottled water for infants under 6 months old.
