The Utah Department of Transportation is beginning construction on I-70 between Cove Fort and Sevier to remove and rebuild the surfaces of 14 bridges this week.
The construction will force the closure of one side of the freeway at a time. So both directions will each have one lane through the area. The speed limit will also be slowed.
According to UDOT officials, this project will be the largest hydro-demolition project undertaken by UDOT to date. Hydro-demolition uses high-pressure water to remove the top layer of concrete on bridges and leaves the bridge in place.
UDOT says this project should be done by the end of 2019.
