Missing 5-year-old in Richfield found with family

Richfield City Police are breathing a sigh of relief and some frustration after a 5-year-old girl was reported missing early Tuesday morning.

According to Police Chief Trent Lloyd, a father called at 12:20 a.m. to report that he didn’t know where his daughter was.

Police began a search of the area, called out search and rescue and reverse 911 called residents. After an hour of searching, officials learned from family that a sister-in-law had the girl.

According to Lloyd, the sister-in-law had taken the girl from the home after seeing that the father was drunk earlier that evening.

Police called off their search about an hour after the initial call came in.

Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) will conduct an investigation, but Lloyd says no charges are pending.
