On Dec. 21, the Millard County Sheriff presented a letter of Commendation to Deputy Sean Cain. On November 14th, Deputy Cain responded to, and was first on scene to an accidental gun discharge in Leamington that resulted in a severe injury to an individual’s arm.
According to a post to the Millard Sheriff Facebook page, those on scene had attempted to slow the bleeding by fashioning a tourniquet out of a belt and bailing twine. This proved insufficient, however, Deputy Cain had a tourniquet with him and was able to apply it quickly to the injured arm. Deputy Cain then drove the ambulance to the Delta Hospital to allow the EMTs to render aid while the patient was transported.
The attending doctor later stated that Deputy Cain’s quick action in applying the tourniquet saved the patient’s arm and likely a life as the brachial artery had been severed.
