The Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force is on their way to Central Utah. The task force will be in Richfield Friday evening for a town hall meeting to hear from taxpayers on changing the state code.
During the 2019 General Legislative Session, the legislature created the task force after initial efforts to change the code and add new taxes failed.
The bill would have lowered the sales tax and income tax, but add new taxes on services, including things like lawn care, advertising, plumbing and tax preparation.
Representative Tim Quinn sponsored the original H.B 441. He’s now on the task force.
Those in favor of the changes call it tax modernization, though many groups and small businesses have spoken out against the addition of new taxes, which they say will hurt their business.
The town hall meeting will begin with an open house at 5 p.m. at the Sevier Valley Fairgrounds. The meeting with presentation and public comments will follow at 6 p.m.
