A 36-year old man is in custody in Sanpete County after stealing a truck from Snow College and breaking into the Manti Utah Temple. The Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office was notified by a security guard on Feb. 9 that a man was trying to break into the temple, which is currently closed for renovations. Upon arrival, an officer told the man he was trespassing. The man was able to break into the temple and barricade himself in a room. After getting permission from the supervisor of construction, officers broke down a door and arrested the man. Later that day, deputies learned Snow College had video footage of the man taking a UTV and driving around the campus before leaving in a Snow College truck, breaking through a gate. He was arrested for investigation of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, receiving a financial transaction card with intent to use, two counts of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, theft, interfering with an arresting officer and failure to stop at command of law enforcement. The suspect has been identified as Colton McFarland. McFarland appeared in court on Wednesday, February 15. He will have a custody hearing next Wednesday in front of Judge Larsen.
