Update: As of Jun. 20, Watanabe’s charges have been reduced to a class B misdemeanor for reckless driving and an infraction (going 104 in an 80 mph zone).
A California man is facing several charges in Juab County after leading police on a high speed chase. Takahisa Watanabe, age 32, was spotted Apr. 13 traveling 94 mph on I-15 and when a Highway Patrol trooper attempted to pull him over he sped up to over 100 mph. Officers successfully spiked Watanabe’s tires, after which he got off the freeway in Nephi coming to a stop. Two passengers in the car with him were eventually released and Watanabe was booked on charges of failing to stop for police, a third-degree felony; and infractions for failing to stay in his lane of travel and going 104 mph in an 80 mph zone.
