Man convicted in 2007 murder of prison guard loses appeal

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Supreme Court has denied a request by a man convicted of killing a prison guard in 2007 to withdraw his guilty plea.

In a ruling Wednesday, the court rebuffed the argument by the 38-year-old Curtis Allgier that he received inefficient help from his attorneys when he pleaded guilty in 2012 as part of a plea deal that allowed him to avoid the death penalty.

Allgier is known for his neo-Nazi tattoos that cover his face and body.

This is the latest legal defeat for Allgier. In 2015, the Utah Supreme Court said Allgier had lost his right to have a new attorney after repeatedly threatening his lawyers.

Authorities say Allgier fatally shot 60-year-old officer Stephen Anderson with Anderson’s gun while he tried to stop Allgier from escaping from a doctor’s visit in June 2007.
