Legislature Responds to Gerrymandering Lawsuit

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Attorneys for the Utah Legislature are responding to a lawsuit claiming the state’s new congressional district map is an unconstitutional gerrymander. In a motion to dismiss, lawyers argue claims over gerrymandering are nothing more than a “political disagreement” and impact to a political party is not prohibited by the Utah Constitution. Groups challenging the map argue that state lawmakers denied voters equal representation after splitting Salt Lake County between all four congressional districts.
