Lee Vows To Block Debt Ceiling Deal Without Spending Cuts

(Washington, DC) — Senator Mike Lee is vowing to block any deal to raise the country’s debt ceiling unless it contains substantial cuts in U.S. spending. The Utah Republican tweeted yesterday that he will use “every procedural tool” he has available to impede any deal that doesn’t contain spending reforms. The tweet went on to say that Lee feared a debt-ceiling agreement without cuts was imminent and predicted it would not face smooth sailing in the Senate. Lee also rejected calls for President Biden to invoke the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling, calling those arguments “indefensible.”
