Lawmakers May Consider Increasing State Food Tax

(Salt Lake City, UT)  –  State lawmakers say they may consider increasing Utah’s food tax as a way to help fund the state budget.  The president of the state Senate said yesterday that a tax increase was one of several options being discussed by lawmakers.  Raising the food tax could be combined with lowering or restructuring other taxes as a way to increase revenue.  While increasing taxes is not politically popular, state political leaders say they have to do something to make up millions of dollars in lost revenue from online purchases. Â
