(Salt Lake City, UT) — A lawmaker wants to change Utah’s state code to protect marriage equality. Democratic State Senator Derek Kitchen plans to push a bill that would change a section of the Utah Code to recognize marriage as a legal union of same-sex couples, as well as a man and a woman. During a news conference, Kitchen explained that the expected reversal of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court has the potential to allow the 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriages nationwide to be overturned as well. Kitchen says adding the change to the state code would protect same-sex marriages in Utah should that happen.
