(Salt Lake City, UT) — A state lawmaker wants to add air pollution to the list of factors that can be used when filing a death certificate in Utah. State Representative Stephen Handy has put forward a bill that would allow doctors to consider air pollution as a contributing factor in someone’s death. The Layton Republican says his bill could help lawmakers shape future air quality policy by giving them additional health data. Handy is part of the legislature’s Clean Air Caucus, which is hoping to pass bills that help cut emissions and encourage the purchase of electric vehicles.
