(Salt Lake City, UT) – The Utah House is passing legislation to suspend Utah’s Test-to-Stay program for schools. In the program, schools that saw a certain number of COVID-19 cases among students were required to test everyone in order to keep in-person learning. Republicans and some health officials have said the program has become ineffective due to the transmissibility of the Omicron variant and isn’t practical to use anymore. Democrats contend that Republicans pushed the bill through too fast without holding any public hearings and without seeking more input from schools.
