Gunnison Middle School resuming classes after water-line flooding

Gunnison Middle School will resume classes at regular times on Wednesday after flooding forced the closure of the school on Monday.

According to officials, the floors, administration area and gym received damage.

70 percent of the school had some amount of water, with one inch the most any part received.

Superintendent Kent Larson says the gym floor has water underneath the wood. The estimated cost to replace the floor would be near $20,000, but Larson says they don’t know yet if it will need to be replaced.

Four near-by schools sent custodial teams to help with the cleanup. Larson says classes will be modified a little to accommodate the flooded areas and fans which are still running.

Larson also says he doesn’t think students will need to make-up the day lost
