Four people are safe after being rescued in the Box Canyon area. Around 11:30 p.m. on Mar. 18, Sanpete County Dispatch receive a report of an overdue party that was last known to have been hiking in the Maple Canyon area. Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the area and located a vehicle belonging to one of the individuals. Sanpete Search and Rescue was dispatched and attempted to locate the individuals by GPS location but were unable due to the terrain. However based on the location of the vehicle it was believed the party was in the Box Canyon area. A Department of Public Safety helicopter was dispatched and located the party above the lower water fall area. All four individuals were hoisted to safety and released to medical teams.
