(Salt Lake County, UT) — Four county prosecutors are calling for the Utah Legislature to end the death penalty. Salt Lake District Attorney Sim Gill, Utah County Attorney David Leavitt, Summit County Attorney Margaret Olson and Grand County Attorney Christina Sloan have all signed an open letter to Governor Spencer Cox and state lawmakers. In the letter, the elected prosecutors ask lawmakers to adopt a proposal to replace capital punishment with a tiered sentencing system for aggravated murder cases. Seven convicts in Utah are currently on death row.
