Earthquake Recorded Near Zion National Park

(Springdale, UT) — Utah seismologists say an earthquake detected near Zion National Park is the largest recorded in the area in nearly 60 years. The quake happened around 3:30 yesterday afternoon and was centered about five miles east of the park. Scientists said the earthquake had a magnitude of three-point-six, which is the strongest quake recorded in the area since 1962. Park officials said a loud noise and tremors were felt by visitors at the south entrance. No damage or injuries have been reported.
