Democratic State Senator To Seek Return Of Vehicle Safety Inspections

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Utah state senator wants to restore vehicle safety inspections in Utah. The Utah Legislature eliminated inspections for personal vehicles in 2017, saying it would save the state up to 25-million-dollars a year. Democratic Senate Minority Leader Karen Mayne wants the legislature to bring back the inspections, saying a lack of care for brakes and tires can turn vehicles into deadly weapons. Opponents of her proposal point to statistics from the UHP that show no significant increase in crashes due to faulty equipment since inspections were eliminated.
