Cox Proposes Tax Cuts, Teacher Raises In Next State Budget

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Cox wants to give Utah teachers a boost in pay in the next state budget. The governor went to Centennial Junior High in Kaysville yesterday and announced his plan to give every teacher in Utah a six-thousand-dollar raise. He also wants to increase a key funding mechanism to direct more money into Utah’s schools. The next budget also proposes a billion dollars in tax cuts, including new tax exemptions and a reduction in the state income tax rate. The governor plans to unveil the rest of his budget proposals today.
