The Sevier County jail is dealing with a small outbreak of COVID-19 cases. Recent testing at the jail has revealed that 22 inmates currently have the Coronavirus. Sevier County Sheriff Nathan Curtis shared his thoughts on the situation saying, “it was something that was inevitable.”
Curtis also shared that the cases seem to be isolated to the jail’s population of state inmates. Currently at the jail there are 85 inmates for 144 beds, meaning jailers can separate those who have tested positive from the other inmates.
Curtis also shared “we want the inmates and our officers to be healthy and as safe as possible,” and that the jail’s medical staff is working closely with the Central Utah Public Health Department in monitoring each inmate.
