(Salt Lake City, UT) — A court hearing is scheduled today in Salt Lake City over a state district court judge’s ruling blocking Utah’s trigger law banning abortion from taking effect. Judge Andrew Stone blocked the law from going into effect on June 27th to allow time to hear a challenge to the law. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU of Utah filed suit on June 25th, arguing the law violates the state constitutions equal protection and privacy guarantees. The law bans most abortions, with limited exceptions, and anyone found guilty of performing an abortion could face up to 15 years in prison.
