Counterfeit bill used in Delta leads to arrest; MCSO issues warning

The Millard County Sheriff’s Office wants residents and business owners to be aware they have investigated several cases of counterfeit money recently.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office a counterfeit $100 bill with Chinese writing, was used at a store in Delta on March 12.

That same night the Utah Highway Patrol arrested Noel Calderon for speeding and driving under the influence. The arresting trooper found numerous counterfeit $100 bills in Calderon’s vehicle. The bills found in the vehicle also had what appeared to be Chinese print on them.

The sheriff’s office report states the print is known to be erasable which can render the bills more authentic. Similar counterfeits have been reported across the United States and can be bought online.

The Millard County Sheriff’s Office encourages you to contact them if you think you have money that may be counterfeit and suggests using the website www.uscurrency.gov/denominations to educate yourself of the security features on legitimate currency.
