Constitutional amendment on education funding proposed by GOP leaders

Republican lawmakers may have reached a compromise with Utah educational groups on a possible change in the way the state funds public education.

According to UtahPolicy.com the lawmakers’ plan would move programs for the disabled and children from the General Fund to the Education Fund, freeing up about $600 million in General fund revenue.

The measure would require a change in the state Constitution. Lawmakers plan to introduce the plan in the next few days and hope to put it before voters in November.
