(Kanab, UT) — Community members engage with elected officials and national park service authorities regarding plans for conserving Zion National Park. The first of many planned public meetings took place Thursday during the Utah Outdoor Recreation Summit in Kanab during which the East Zion Initiative was the topic of discussion. A plan is being devised with the objective of re-routing visitor access in order to protect the east side of the park. The planning stage with community input is expected to last through next year. More conservation is needed due to visitor growth which has converted Zion into the third most visited national park in the country.
