Car Chase Leads to Colorado Parolee Arrest in Sanpete County

A high speed chase lead to the arrest of a Colorado parolee in Sanpete County. Parker Chase Avondet, age 21, was spotted on the night of July 12 driving 95 mph in  a 45 mph zone in Centerfield. An officer attempted to pursue him but lost sight of him near Redmond.

A short time later a crash was reported involving Avondet’s vehicle on U.S. 89 at the state route 256 junction. According to reports “a female passenger was stuck inside the vehicle as a result of the accident and seriously injured. The driver was not on scene.”

Avondet reportedly flagged down another motorist, then assaulted the driver and took her car. In the car left behind officer found heroin and methamphetamine, they also learned the vehicle had been stolen out of Colorado.

On July 13, police learned that Avondet was still in Sanpete County and he was found later that night “in a family member’s vehicle, concealing himself in the trunk.” He was booked into the Sanpete County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery, failing to remain at the scene of a crash involving injury, reckless driving, failing to stop for police, speeding, two counts of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and using license plates registered to another vehicle.
