Candidates Slugging It Out On Possible MLB Stadium

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox is in a slugfest with his opponents over a potential new MLB stadium. At issue is the possibility of new tax increases that would go with it. The latest version of the baseball bill, HB 562 shows that the Fairpark Area Investment and Restoration District could impose statewide hikes on hotel room and rental car taxes. Carson Jorgensen, candidate and former state Republican Party chair, says people are angry about any new taxes. He called for a vote of the people, not the legislature. Republican Representative Phil Lyman of San Juan County says he’s a “hard no” on the MLB plan.
