Calf Creek Recreation Site To Close For Summer Projects

(Garfield County, UT) — Federal officials say one of the favorite recreation sites at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Garfield County will close for much of this summer. The Calf Creek Recreation Site, which includes the trailhead for the popular Lower Calf Creek Falls hike, will close on July 8th as crews work on several infrastructure projects. Construction is expected to take at least two months according to the Bureau of Land Management. Due to the growing popularity of the site, some creek-crossing structures and shade shelters will be replaced. A small amphitheater, a nature trail and pedestrian pathways will also be constructed, with 70 parking places to be added to the main parking area.
