Bill To Remove The Death Penalty From Utah Filed

(Salt Lake City, UT) – A bill that would remove the death penalty as a form of punishment in Utah is now ready for state lawmakers to consider. HB 147 from Republicans Lowry Snow and Dan McCay would change the possible sentence for aggravated murder to 45 years to life in prison. The change would only apply to murders committed after May 4th of this year, meaning cases already in the court system now would be grandfathered in. Currently, seven men are on death row in Utah.
