Barricade Situation In Mount Pleasant

Around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, authorities in Mount Pleasant were dispatched to a residence in the area of 300 North 600 East on a report of a medical call. When an officer entered the residence he found a 51-year-old female with a laceration on her face/neck area. According to a post on the Mount Pleasant Police Department Facebook page, “the officer was informed that the suspect, who was the victims husband, was in the other room and he was armed with a fire arm.” The officer evacuated two females from the residence and the victim was transported to the hospital, later being transported to a hospital up north. It was discovered that the suspect, John Hickey age 53, had access to multiple firearms and one had been shot at least one time in the residence as part of the assault. According to the Facebook post, Hickey was also intoxicated and possibly using drugs. Multiple agencies unsuccessfully attempted to contact Hickey over the next 10 hours before a tactical team was contacted. A DPS swat team responded and were able to make entry into the residence and confirmed that Hickey was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
