(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Avalanche Center is warning backcountry travelers to watch for dangerous conditions following the latest round of mountain snow. The center says there is a considerable risk of avalanches after a layer of wet, heavy snow fell on top of weaker and more brittle powder during the weekend. North-facing slopes above eight-thousand feet are considered the riskiest. Anyone heading to the backcountry is being warned to check conditions every day and to make sure they carry the proper avalanche rescue gear at all times.
