Animal rescuers care for puppies abandoned in Utah mountains

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Search and rescue personnel and wildlife officers in northern Utah have rescued three Great Pyrenees puppies abandoned in frigid temperatures in the mountains. Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue crew members and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources say snowmobilers near Monte Cristo first found the puppies Sunday hiding in an animal carcass. An animal rescue activist says the puppies’ mother was likely left behind by a sheep rancher escaping the mountains for winter.
