AG’s Office Give Guidance On Library Books

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Attorney General’s Office is giving school districts guidance regarding laws surrounding books in school libraries. The memorandum states removal of any books from school libraries can constitute a suppression of ideas. Guidance about whether a book should be pulled from the shelf includes consideration of “serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value” for kids. The AG’s Office advises libraries to keep books on the shelf while they are under review.
