(Salt Lake City, UT) — The ACLU of Utah and Planned Parenthood have filed a lawsuit to stop a law that would close abortion clinics statewide. The suit filed yesterday in state district court asks for an injunction to stop the implementation of House Bill 467. The law would allow abortions through the 18th week of pregnancy for reasons like rape or the health of the mother, but only at hospitals and medical clinics. The groups say that if the law takes effect on May 3rd that it would have the effect of banning abortion in Utah.
