911 call shows panic after fatal Greyhound bus crash in Emery County

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police recordings show a woman hurt when a Greyhound bus careened off a Utah highway called 911 in a panic, saying the driver had passed out before the crash and begging for help as dispatchers struggled to locate her in the rural desert.

The recording released Thursday shows the woman didn’t know exactly where she was when the bus went off the road on the way to Las Vegas, and it took about 15 minutes to pinpoint the location off the highway.

A 13-year-old girl died and 12 people were hurt in the New Year’s Eve crash.

Police have said the driver may have suffered a medical problem before the crash.

Greyhound spokeswoman Lanesha Gipson says the company is still investigating.
