SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — One person is dead and three others are critically injured after a pickup truck struck a Starbucks patio in a Salt Lake City suburban shopping center.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said Friday that it doesn’t appear it was an intentional act. Gray said investigators think the male driver had some kind of a medical issue that caused him to lose control, perhaps a seizure.
The incident occurred Friday morning when the man’s truck veered off a nearby road in the suburb of Holladay and smashed into the Starbucks patio about 100 feet away.
Gray says a group of three people sitting on the patio were struck by the truck, which then rolled over.
The driver and two of the people from the patio are in critical condition.
The driver’s two small children who were inside the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
