(Springdale, UT) — New restrictions for campfires in Zion Canyon will be in place beginning tomorrow. The fire management officer for Zion National Park announced campfires and smoking near dry plants in that area will not be allowed until further notice. In a statement, officials said a fire had to be put out that burned part of Watchman Campground over the weekend. The restrictions are an effort to “protect people, property, and the park itself.” The park says violations can result in fines up to five-thousand dollars or months of prison time.
