(Provo, UT) — Officials in Utah County are urging people to avoid the Provo River. A spokesman for the Provo mayor’s office says many hikers, kayakers and others ignored warnings not to go into the river over the weekend. At least one young person had to rescued while trying to kayak in the cold, fast water. Utah County sheriff’s deputies also handed out citations to multiple people who ignored signs and tried to use a trail that had become unstable due to erosion. The river is expected to remain high and dangerous until sometime next month.
