3-A First Round
MT. PLEASANT, Utah-Eryn Briggs stepped up with 12 points as the North Sanpete Hawks waxed Grand 36-29 in the first round of the 3-A girls basketball state playoffs Wednesday. Josalyn Murphy had a game-high 13 points in defeat for the Red Devils. North Sanpete next faces No. 1 seed South Sevier Saturday at 1:00 pm.
2-A First round
SALINA, Utah-Calleigh Nelson posted 18 points on 9-12 from the field as North Sevier routed APA West Valley 66-28 Wednesday in the first round of the 2-A girls basketball state playoffs. Aryanna Paul had 9 points on 4-6 from the field in defeat for the Eagles.
The Wolves next face Enterprise Friday at 7:30 pm in the second round of the 2-A girls state basketball tournament.
PAROWAN, Utah-Danika Jones led the way with 14 points and the Parowan Rams hammered Freedom Prep 69-12 in the first round of the 2-A girls basketball state playoffs Wednesday. Tameryn Koford and Emilia Chan had 6 points apiece in defeat for the Eagles. Parowan next faces Kanab Friday at 5:30 pm in the second round of the 2-A girls basketball state playoffs.
GUNNISON, Utah-Naomi Willden netted 20 points and the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs pounded Utah Military-Hillfield 58-17 Wednesday in the first round of the 2-A girls basketball state playoffs. Abbigail Thompson had 11 points in defeat for the Thunderbirds. The Bulldogs next face No. 2 seed North Summit Friday at 5:00 pm in the second round.
DRAPER, Utah-Jazmin Moctezuma stepped up with 25 points as the Draper APA Eagles routed Merit 66-30 in the first round of the 2-A girls basketball state playoffs Wednesday. Brooke Dayley had 18 points for the Knights in the loss. The Eagles face No. 1 seed Layton Christian Friday at 5:30 pm in the second round.
Region 20 Tournament
TROPIC, Utah-Kinley Spaulding posted 14 points and 4 rebounds as the Milford Tigers smoked Bryce Valley 31-22 Wednesday in the first round of the Region 20 tournament. Brooklyn Syrett’s 8 points led the Mustangs in defeat. Milford next faces No. 1 seed Wayne Friday at 6:20 pm in the region semifinals at Panguitch High School. Bryce Valley next faces Escalante Friday at 8:30 am in the consolation bracket at Panguitch High School.
ORDERVILLE, Utah-Jannie Hoyt led the way with 19 points and the Valley Buffaloes gashed Water Canyon 60-47 in the first round of the Region 20 tournament Wednesday. Shana Barlow had 15 points for the Wildcats in the loss. Valley next faces Piute Friday at 3:10 pm at Panguitch High School in the region semifinals. Water Canyon next draws Panguitch Friday at 11:50 am at Panguitch High School.
BICKNELL, Utah-AnDee Van Dyke had 18 points as the Wayne Badgers pounded Escalante 59-35 in the first round of the Region 20 tournament Wednesday. Abby Stevens added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the win for the Badgers. Nadia Griffin had 13 points in the loss for the Moquis.
JUNCTION, Utah-Kassidy Westwood amassed 15 points and the Piute Thunderbirds stonewalled Panguitch 38-21 Wednesday in the first round of the Region 20 tournament. Kyan Orton had 13 points in the loss for the Bobcats.
