The Sanpete County Commission has called an emergency meeting for 8 a.m. Friday morning, May 26, to discuss immediate demolition of the Sanpete County Fairgrounds grandstand. Originally, organizers planned to add additional bracing and structural enhancements to extend the life of the century-old grandstand. But after several severe wind storms and a tour by engineers and a general contractor, it was determined that extensive damage has been done to the structure, including a shift of the entire grandstand, making it not only unsafe, but a danger to bystanders. Due to the unforeseen circumstances, the Commissioners will meet to consider immediate demolition of the grandstand structure. The meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Friday morning in the County Commission Room in the basement of the Sanpete County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend the meeting.
