Paraglider caught in power lines in Monroe

Just before 10:00 a.m. on Sep. 25, authorities received a call that an individual that was paragliding in the Monroe area had got tangled in some power lines.

According to Sevier County Sheriff Nathan Curtis, Monroe city came to the scene and grounded the lines and got the individual, a 34 year old female, down using the bucket on their lineman’s truck.

According to eye witnesses the individual luckily flew between two of the lines without touching either before their paraglider got caught up in the lines. An ambulance was called to the scene but the individual was able to walk away without any injuries.

The incident did cause a temporary power outage in the city of Monroe. The outage lasted approximately one hour and according to the city, affected everything south of Center Street.
