2-A South

FILLMORE, Utah-The Kanab Cowboys ran for 254 yards on the evening and improved to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in 2-A South play with a 27-0 rout of the Millard Eagles Friday in the region opener for both squads.

Led by proficient signal-caller Derek Houston (4-8, 95 yards, TD) and strong performances from fullbacks Michael Warino (16 car, 69 yards, TD) and Travis Stewart (7 car, 40 yards, TD), the Cowboys dominated in the trenches.

As pointed out by Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network color analyst Bucky Orton, the Cowboys domintated the most important statistic of this game: time of possession.

In building an early lead, Kanab was able to methodically salt the game away and played complementary football throughout.

The Cowboys limited a proficient Eagles offense to 167 yards of offense. Meanwhile, Kanab tailbacks Karson Blomquist (13 touches, 82 scrimmage yards, rush TD) and Bracken McQuivey (11 touches, 93 scrimmage yards, rush TD) were also versatile in both the running and passing schemes for the Cowboys.

Meanwhile, with a 29-yard scoring reception, Kanab tight end Kason Janes has proven himself highly proficient on the season.

The 4-0 Cowboys are next in action Friday at home agains the Parowan Rams as 2-A South football action ensues.

The Eagles, meanwhile, take a trip to Monticello in non-region football play Friday. Neither of these games will be Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network broadcasts.

BEAVER, Utah-Turner Williams had scoring runs of 13 and 22 yards as the Beaver Beavers pulverized North Sevier 56-0 Friday in 2-A South football action. EJ Allred added scoring runs of 55 and 41 yards for the Beavers, while Ky Brown (33 yards) and Bowden Brown (30 yards) each had scoring receptions for the Beavers. Crayton Hollingshead added a 5-yard scoring run for good measure for the Beavers.

2-A North

GUNNISON, Utah-The Gunnison Valley Bulldogs built a 41-12 lead at the half en route to a 47-12 victory over Monticello to have a successful Homecoming game in 2-A North football action Friday.

Non-Region

DELTA, Utah-Caleb Sullivan tossed four touchdown passes and the Grantsville Cowboys pummeled Delta 42-9 Friday in non-region football action. Blake Thomas added scoring runs of 20 and 54 yards for the Cowboys.

DUCHESNE, Utah-Cameron Brady threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Makovey Jessen and added a 1-yard scoring run for the Duchesne Eagles as they doubled up Milford 28-14 in non-region football action Friday. Brock Adams and Parker Crum also added scoring runs for the Eagles in the win. Bo Hardy threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Blake Barnes and Bret Beebe added a 15-yard touchdown run in the loss for the Tigers.

MONROE, Utah-Bodee Blackett ran for a score and returned an interception for another touchdown as the Juab Wasps routed South Sevier 42-7 Friday in non-region football action. Teagan Christensen caught two more scores for the Wasps while Kaysen Sperry and Grant Orme also added scoring runs in victory for Juab. Parker Brian caught a touchdown pass in defeat for the Rams.

MANTI, Utah-Dallas Larson had scoring runs of 80 and 12 yards and the Juan Diego Soaring Eagle edged Manti 28-27 in non-region football action Friday. Tyler Taukieaho had touchdown runs of 85 yards and 1 yard for Manti in defeat with Jax Parry throwing touchdown passes to Troy Madsen (9 yards) and Keegan Strickland (20 yards) for the Templars. Seth Cornelsen also added a 30-yard field goal for Manti in the loss.

MT. PLEASANT, Utah-The North Sanpete Hawks built a 49-14 lead en route to a 52-28 victory over Richfield Friday in non-region football action. Jake Hyatt caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Brown and Heston Jensen added a 1-yard touchdown run in the loss for the Wildcats. Rance Christensen made a 25-yard field goal in the win for the Hawks.

Volleyball

Region 20

ORDERVILLE, Utah-The Valley Buffaloes won a home Region 20 volleyball match over Bryce Valley 3-0 Friday. Valley prevailed 25-11, 25-18, 25-12.

Non-Region

MONROE, Utah-Cassie Johnson recorded nine kills Aspen Okerlund had 19 assists and five aces as South Sevier swept Hurricane 3-0 in non-region volleyball action. The Rams won the match 25-13, 25-15, 26-24.

GREEN RIVER, Utah-Escalante earned a straight set sweep over Green River, 3-0 Friday in non-region volleyball action. The Moquis won 25-17, 25-13, 25-16.

Girls Tennis

Non-Region

MONROE, Utah-The South Sevier Rams beat North Sanpete 4-1 Friday in a non-region girls tennis match. South Sevier won in 2nd singles with Gabby Carter 7-5, 6-0; Hannah Gay in 3rd singles 6-2, 6-1; Aubree Robinson and Morgan Blackburn in 1st doubles 6-3, 6-1; and Presley Chappell and Neleh Troseth in 2nd doubles 6-0, 6-1.

Baseball

1A South Region

TROPIC, Utah-Cooper Esplin hit two doubles and had seven RBI as the No. 1 Valley Buffaloes knocked off Bryce Valley 19-2 Friday in 1A South Region baseball action. Spencer Cox added a double and Conner Chamberlain earned the win on the mound for Valley. Ethan Willis doubled in the loss for the Mustangs.

JUNCTION, Utah-The No. 2 Piute Thunderbirds won a battle between two of the top teams in 1A baseball as they pulled away from No. 3 Wayne 11-6 Friday in 1A South Region action. Jesse Webb and Dallas Peterson doubled in the loss for the Badgers.
