The FBI has finished its investigation in Ephraim’s police chief and closed the case.
According to FBI spokesman Sandra Barker, there are no criminal charges to be pursued federally against Chief Ron Rasmussen.
The investigation began when three officers raised concerns about incomplete and unfiled reports on the part of Chief Rasmussen. An independent investigation was conducted by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, and while they discovered Rasmussen was responsible for a significant number of incomplete reports, there was no indication the conduct was criminal. Rasmussen was placed on five days of administrative leave by the city then allowed to return as chief. That decision prompted the resignation of the three officers and initiated the FBI investigation.
Since the officers’ resignations, three new officers have been hired, as well as a fourth officer who started this week. Ephraim City Manager Brant Hanson said he appreciated the FBI’s review, and said it was refreshing to know there were no issues at the federal level. Rasmussen is Utah’s longest serving chief in the state.
