Mike Spencer, who teaches math at Juab High School, is a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Debra Morgan teaches science courses at South Sevier High School and she’s also a finalist.
Superintendent Cade Douglas says Morgan is one of those teachers who utilizes hands-on teaching.
“She’s also one of the finest individuals you’ll come across. She was embarrassed to get the award,” Douglas says. “She’ll be the first to tell you that all of our teachers are phenomenal at Sevier School District, and they are.
The award is the highest honor bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science teaching. The National Science Foundation administers the award on behalf of the White House.
Winners will be announced sometime next fall.
