Lawmaker shares how COVID-19 caught her family ‘off guard’

RIVERTON, Utah (AP) — A Utah lawmaker says she and her family tested positive for COVID-19 after having a small Sunday dinner with a close relative last week. Rep. Candice Pierucci told the Deseret News Tuesday that the family member later said they had been exposed to the virus at a work meeting. Pierucci, her husband and her 16-month-old son all began experiencing symptoms. Pierucci says she was “caught off guard” that her young, healthy family could be hit by the pandemic. The Republican legislator says she hopes Utah residents learn from her experience and continue social distancing and wearing masks when in public.
