Bicyclist hit by car in Monroe

A woman was struck by a car while riding her bicycle on June 30 in Monroe. The cyclist was riding along the side of the road when the vehicle came up behind her traveling in the same direction.

According to Sevier County Sheriff Nathan Curtis the cyclist, 21 year old Mutya Macalino, stated that she doesn’t remember seeing the car approaching from behind. All she remembers is signaling to cross the street then waking up to people staring at her.

According to Curtis the car was going between 30 and 35 miles per hour and the driver stated the Macalino just rode out in front of her.

Macalino was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is expected to fully recover.
